The best steps for developing a visual blog style

1. Decide on article categories based on search intent

Blog categories serve as organizational pillars for your website, enabling readers and search engines to locate desired information.

They provide a structured framework by grouping individual posts and subtopics under your chosen categories.

Listicles, how-to articles, comparison/review articles, and guides are all article formats that assist readers in finding the information they seek. You should choose those related to your industry.

In our example, we have how-to guides, reviews, comparisons and tips on design strategy.

Our current blog categories are focused on Webflow and SaaS (because we are experts in these areas), such as:

  • What is Webflow
  • Webflow for blogs
  • Webflow SEO
  • Webflow for B2B SaaS
  • SaaS optimization
  • SaaS positioning

2. Develop your visual style for main and open graph image

The main image should help readers quickly digest the idea of your content and reinforce your firsthand experience.

Images should make your words more approachable. We use images that connect mainly to our brand style, referring to the topic.

In our previous branding style, each category aligned with the preferred color. Blue, for instance, was our color for the Webflow category. It evoked trust, security, and strength.

After a rebranding strategy in September 2023, we adopted a minimalist design with simple graphics.

Based on our analysis, we chose light colors that best suit our industry.

And open graph images?

The open graph image serves as the visual preview of your webpage.

And here is our visual language for open graphs:

This approach reinforces brand image and enhances user recognition.

3. Develop your visual language for various blog elements

There are several blog components you need to implement:

Table of content: A table of contents is a promise to your reader: “I value your time, and here’s exactly what you’ll get.
